Learn about the available editions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server and the licensing requirements.

Dynamics CRM is customer relationship management (CRM) server software that offers tools for storing and analyzing customer records.

It is available in two editions, each appropriate for different sizes and types of organizations. Additionally, several different licensing configurations are available. The licenses you should request depend on the number and kind of users and devices with access to the CRM database and the level of access needed.

You can use this guide to find the Dynamics CRM server and licenses appropriate to your organization's needs.

Server Editions

The two editions of Dynamics CRM 2013 server available through TechSoup Nederland are Dynamics CRM Server and Dynamics CRM Workgroup Server.

Dynamics CRM Server 2013

Dynamics CRM Server 2013 operates under the Server/CAL licensing model. That means users and devices require appropriate client access licenses (CALs) to access the server software. It offers a multi-tenant architecture, meaning that it allows organizations to maintain multiple, distinct CRM databases on one server with only one server license.

Dynamics CRM Workgroup Server 2013

Dynamics CRM Workgroup Server 2013 is a specially licensed edition of CRM Server and does not operate under the Server/CAL licensing model. No client access licenses (CALs) are needed. CRM Workgroup Server 2013 includes licenses for a maximum of five users to access a server from any number of computers or other devices. If you later need to support more than five users, you can request Dynamics CRM Server 2013 through TechSoup Nederland.

Client Access Licenses

Dynamics CRM Server 2013 requires a CAL for each user or device accessing a server. Dynamics CRM Workgroup Server 2013 does not require CALs.

There are three standard types of CALs, which are available either per user or per device. There are also two supplemental types of CALs, called Additive Use CALs, that add functionality to an existing CAL. The following table provides information about the standard CALs offered through TechSoup Nederland. More details about these and the supplemental CALs follow the table.
