Lync Server User CAL - Plus (Includes Software Assurance)

This plus user client access license (CAL) can be used only in conjunction with a standard Lync Server user CAL. It supports the enterprise telephony capabilities of Lync Server on any number of computers or other devices (for example, when an employee accesses the server from a computer at work and another at home).

Core Device CAL Suite (Includes Software Assurance)

Description: 
The Core Device CAL Suite is a set of four device client access licenses (CALs) and two operating system environment (OSE) client management licenses (MLs). Together they provide workstation licensing for key Microsoft server technologies.

A device CAL gives one computer or other device access to a server regardless of the number of users. An OSE client ML licenses the management of one nonserver device. If a device has multiple OSEs, a separate ML is required for each OSE being managed. See below for details on the CALs and client MLs included with this donation.


Benefits for Organizations
  • You can request this suite to obtain workstation licensing for six popular server products using only one of your Microsoft title group allotments.
  • You'll also obtain the rights to download and install management server software for System Center Configuration Manager, System Center Virtual Machine Manager, and System Center Endpoint Protection.


CALs

One Core Device CAL Suite contains one of each of the following CALs:

  • Windows Server Device CAL provides access to Windows Server.
  • Exchange Server Device CAL – Standard provides access to Exchange Server.
  • SharePoint Server Standard Edition Device CAL provides access to SharePoint Server.
  • Lync Server Device CAL – Standard supports the instant messaging, presence, and PC-to-PC audio and video communications capabilities of Lync Server 2010 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Note: The Exchange Server Enterprise CAL and SharePoint Server Enterprise Edition CAL are not included in the Core CAL Suite.


System Center Client MLs

One Core Device CAL Suite contains one of each of the following OSE client MLs:

  • System Center Configuration Manager OSE Client ML allows management by System Center Configuration Manager and Virtual Machine Manager.
  • System Center Endpoint Protection OSE Client ML allows protection by System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection.


The right to run management server software is included with System Center client MLs. If you request this product, you can download and install the management server software listed above. The software includes a runtime version of SQL Server Technology (SQL Server Standard Edition) to support System Center. No additional licenses are needed for management servers or SQL Server technology.

Obtaining This Product


CALs and MLs do not require media, license keys, or setup codes.

The System Center server software requires installation media which you can download or order from the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC)

Expect three emails:
1. When your donation request has been approved, TechSoup Nederland will send a message to your organization email address confirming the number of licenses you have requested.
2. Microsoft will send an email welcoming your organization to the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).
3. TechSoup Nederland will send an email with information about managing your donation at the VLSC. If you are new to the VLSC, you should wait for this email before you register there.


Software Assurance

Under the Software Assurance program, you have the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of your coverage.

This standard device client access license (CAL) supports the instant messaging, presence, and PC-to-PC audio and video communications capabilities of Lync Server 2010 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 on one computer, regardless of the number of users (for example, on a shared workstation).

Additional licenses are required for audio, video, and web conferencing, application sharing, and enterprise telephony capabilities.

  • An enterprise CAL provides all but voice telephony features when used with Lync Server 2010; voice telephony features require a plus CAL. To enable all features, all three CALs (standard, enterprise, and plus) are needed
  • An enterprise CAL provides all these capabilities when used with Office Communications Server 2007 R2. To enable all features, both standard and enterprise CALs are needed.


User CALs and an external connector (EC) license are also available. A user CAL authorizes one user to access Lync Server 2010 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 from any device (for example, when an employee accesses the server from a computer at work and another at home). The EC license allows any number of external users or devices to access a single installation of Lync Server 2010 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Windows MultiPoint Server CAL Pack for One Station (Includes Software Assurance)

Description: 

This Windows MultiPoint Server client access license (CAL) pack permits one device (typically a user station) to access MultiPoint Server. It includes the following licenses:
Windows MultiPoint Server device CAL
Windows Server device CAL

Windows MultiPoint Server is a special version of the Windows Server operating system that allows multiple users to simultaneously share one computer. Each user station that connects to MultiPoint Server must have both a MultiPoint Server CAL and a Windows Server CAL. If the host computer is used as a user station and not just for administration, organizations must acquire both a MultiPoint Server CAL and a Windows Server CAL for it as well.

Individual MultiPoint Server device CALs are also available through TechSoup.NL for organizations with valid Windows Server CALs. MultiPoint Server user CALs, as opposed to device CALs, are not available through TechSoup.NL since this kind of licensing would be more costly in a typical MultiPoint Server setup than licensing per device. For example, a setup with 10 user stations would require just 10 device CALs for any number of users. If licensed per user, the same setup would require each user to have a separate license.

The subscription includes two complimentary technical support calls and discounted service on additional live support calls. Subscribers have priority access to dozens of managed forums, in which Microsoft engineers provide answers within two business days if other users haven't already given them. TechNet concierge chat is available 24/7 to help subscribers find the technical resources they need or to assist with nontechnical questions.

The e-learning benefit provides subscribers with two sets of courses per calendar year, or about 40 hours of online coursework.

Acquiring TechNet: To activate the TechNet subscription, you must perform an additional step when retrieving your license keys from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center website: click Subscriptions in the VLSC menu bar and follow the TechNet link to enter information about the subscribing user. Within 10 days, you will receive a confirmation email with a subscriber ID and directions to the TechNet website.

A Microsoft Project Server client access license (CAL) gives a user the right to access the services of Project Server or Project Portfolio Server. Any application that accesses the services of Project Server or Project Portfolio Server requires a CAL, including Project Professional, Project Web Access, SharePoint sites with Web Parts that display project information, Microsoft Office Outlook integration with the COM add-in, and third-party applications. Users with a Project Server CAL can view and update project information from Project Server or Project Portfolio Server through the web portal, Project Web Access.
